Today the BMTA Staff and Board gathered to celebrate our BMTA Grounds Manager, Rob Watkins', 8-year anniversary working at BMTA. Having started with BMTA in 2016, Rob is BMTA’s longest serving current employee. Unlike other staff who work on competition nights, many of our members may never see Rob, but he is one of the most important members of our BMTA team.

In line with our recently launched Strategic Plan, BMTA is committed to recognising and celebrating ‘our people’ and is proud to share a little about one of our hardest working employees!

Over his 8 years with BMTA, Rob has managed our facility through drought, record high years of rainfall, COVID shutdown and everything in between. While the weather isn’t always on our side, Rob does an amazing job managing our fields so that more then 800 teams can play at BMTA every year, on top of our many external events, field hires, programs and more. In addition to managing our fields, Rob also maintains the Holland Park Hawks Soccer Fields, the wider BMTA facility and marks the Cricket Fields for BMTA fixtures.

Rob is very well respected within the Sports Turf industry, during his time at BMTA he has trained not 1 but 2 apprentices who have gone on the win the QLD Apprentice of the Year award. He has also been integral in bringing on a number of fields-based sponsors and maintains excellent relationships with suppliers. This allows Rob to coordinate significant field remediation works each off-season to ensure our fields are ready for the incredibly high usage that comes from hosting up to 450 teams in a single season.

Despite being with BMTA for 8 years, Rob is always looking for ways to innovate and improve our facility and affiliate. Rob’s enduring dedication to BMTA over the past 8 years is the driving force behind BMTA being one of the leading Touch Football venues in Australia. We thank Rob for his continued commitment to BMTA and hope to have him here for many more years to come!
