On Sunday 19 April, BMTA proudly hosted its annual Mustang Stampede — one of the most anticipated events on the club calendar and a true reflection of its Strategic Plan in action. The afternoon brought together recognition, competition and connection, celebrating the people at the heart of the program while continuing to strengthen the culture that defines what it means to be part of One Herd.

Earning selection in BMTA’s Junior Mustangs Program is a significant achievement. With approximately 4,500 junior players registered during the Junior State Cup eligibility period, those chosen for the 2026 program represent the top 5% of talent across BMTA.

The Mustang Stampede not only recognises each player’s selection, but also unites all 23 teams through intra-club matches, uniform collection and opportunities to connect across age groups and divisions. It also marks a special milestone, welcoming our U10 players into the program for the very first time and announcing the 2026 Junior Mustangs Club Captains.

This year, that honour was awarded to Ella Denny and Isaac Richter, as announced by BMTA’s Coaching Directors. Both players have been part of the Junior Mustangs Program since their U10 years, demonstrating consistent commitment, leadership and growth throughout their journey, and both with an extensive touch resume. Their dedication to their teams, respect for the game and ability to lead by example have made them outstanding representatives of the program. As Club Captains, Ella and Isaac will play an important role in shaping team culture and leading the Mustangs throughout the 2026 season.

A memorable moment of the afternoon was the presentation of jerseys to our U10 players, a proud milestone marking their official entry into the Junior Mustangs Program. For many, this is their first representative selection, and a moment they should be incredibly proud of. BMTA looks forward to supporting them at the beginning of what we hope will be a long and rewarding journey. Thank you to our dedicated U10 Head Coaches, Dan Holliday, Ray Moaga, Sarah Baartz, Mick Austen, Jay Carroll and Kate Barker, for guiding these young athletes as they take their first steps as Mustangs.

BMTA was also fortunate to welcome two familiar faces to the Stampede, with Australian Men’s Open player Hayden Moffat and Mixed Open Captain Tim Baartz in attendance. Both generously gave their time to present awards, coach teams and even step onto the field, creating a memorable experience for all involved. Their presence and support were greatly appreciated by our players and wider community.

The success of the Mustang Stampede, and the Junior Mustangs Program as a whole, would not be possible without the continued support of our Premium Partner, Inspire Health Services. We extend our sincere thanks to Inspire’s Sports Trainer for providing first aid and physiotherapy support throughout the event. Inspire’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality injury management, education and care plays a vital role in supporting our athletes across the season.

The Stampede also marks the beginning of the journey for our Junior Mustangs referees. Each referee was presented with a paracord whistle lanyard in recognition of their involvement in the program. It is fantastic to see such a strong and enthusiastic group ready to develop their skills and contribute to the game.

With the season now underway, BMTA wishes all players, coaches and referees the very best as they prepare for upcoming lead-in carnivals and the Junior State Cup.
