Record High All Abilities Participants!
BMTA's annual All Abilities Program recently started on the 19th of August with record high participation numbers. It has been amazing to see our 17 athletes turning up and giving it their all. It is great to have a wide variety of participants taking part in the program who are of different ages and abilities, with our youngest athlete just 8 years old and our oldest being 54. Our All Abilities athletes participate in a range of rotational activities each week which have them learning new skills associated with the core areas of touch football. Week one was running and movement, week two was throwing and catching and week three was rucking. Our participants have already come so far in just one week and we cannot wait to see their progression after the six weeks.
Our All Abilities Program is run each year from August to September. It is a six week program held on Monday nights from 5:15pm - 6:15pm at Whites Hill Reserve Camp Hill. BMTA's All Abilities Program is a great program for those with intellectual and physical disabilities to participate in, when they are trying out touch football for the first time. The aim is to introduce participants to the joy of movement through the sport of touch football, with our qualified coaches having athletes participate in rotational activities designed to develop their skills and abilities in the core areas of the sport. Our coaches aim to have participants playing full touch football games come the end of the six weeks.
BMTA's All Abilities Program is led by Head Coach Simon Cox, who has coached in the All Abilities space for many years and brings much experience to the role. Simon also enters an All Abilities team into BMTA's Adult Social Competition in the Mixed F Division. He is passionate about transitioning athletes from the introductory program into the sport and finding opportunities for them to play at the next level which not only extends to our Adult Social Competition but also State and National level.
BMTA would like to thank Touch Football Australia (TFA) for developing Touch Football Specialised (TFS). BMTA are proud to be delivering our All Abilities Program in conjunction with TFA and TFS as just one of the many programs available for All Abilities Athletes around Australia.
